Editorial Review
A terrific, compelling read with an astonishing twist that floored me. I loved it and did not want it to end (Peter James) [A] sensational debut . . . an astonishing intensity that drags you in and never -- ever -- lets you go . . . searing twists. Even if Mackintosh never writes another thriller as good as this -- though I think she will -- she should be vastly proud of this one' (Daily Mail) Chilling, compelling and compassionate, I Let You Go is a finely-crafted novel with a killer twist (Paula Hawkins) The twist takes your breath away . . . surpasses Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train (Jane Moore - Loose Women) Tense and fast-paced with a heart-hammering shock of an ending (Good Housekeeping) A hugely assured and gripping debut and a twist that made me green with envy (Mark Billingham) A taut psychological thriller with a startling twist (Daily Express) Absolutely brilliant - I ripped through it (Jenny Colgan) Astonishingly good (Lee Child) So utterly convincing, as Mackintosh is a former CID officer. With a debut as good as this, the force's loss is crime writing's gain. More please (Sunday Mirror) The twist is killer (S J Watson) Genuinely shocking . . . [a] cunning psychological thriller (New York Times Book Review) Clare Mackintosh's inside knowledge of police work illuminates this gripping - and moving - psychological thriller. I couldn't put it down (Lucie Whitehouse) The novel slams on the brakes and does a u-turn so surprising you'll be flicking back to the start to hunt down the clues you missed (Stylist) The superbly realised characters were the icing on the top of the deft, plot-twisting and emotional debut (Woman and Home) I read I Let You Go in two sittings; it made me cry (at least twice), made me gasp out loud (once) and above all made me wish I'd written it. Absorbing, authentic and deeply unsettling: a stellar achievement, and so deliciously clever (Elizabeth Haynes) Definitely a must-have for crime thriller fans . . . Oh-so-twisty. Loved it (Marie Claire) Brilliant . . . fantastic twist (Woman) With its authentic voices, switchback twists and delicate character studies, this is a rewarding read from a writer with a real understanding of what makes a gripping crime novel (Sarah Hilary)
About the Author
Clare Mackintosh spent twelve years in the police force, including time on CID, and as a public order commander. She left the police in 2011 to work as a freelance journalist and social media consultant and is the founder of the Chipping Norton Literary Festival. She now writes full time and lives in the Cotswolds with her husband and their three children. Clare's debut novel, I Let You Go, is a Sunday Times bestseller and was the fastest-selling title by a new crime writer in 2015. It was selected for both the Richard and Judy Book Club, and was the winning title of the readers' vote for the summer 2015 selection, and ITV's Loose Women's Loose Books. I Let You Go also won the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year in 2016. I See You, Clare's second novel was published in July 2016. Clare is the patron of the Silver Star Society, an Oxford-based charity which supports the work carried out in the John Radcliffe Hospital's Silver Star unit, providing special care for mothers with medical complications during pregnancy.
