About the Author: Philip Steadman is Emeritus Professor of Urban and Built Form Studies at UCL. He trained as an architect, and has taught at Cambridge University and the Open University. He has published several books on geometry in architecture, of which the most recent is Why Are Most Buildings Rectangular? (2018). In 2001 he published Vermeerâ€™s Camera, on the Dutch painterâ€™s use of the camera obscura.
