Editorial Review
First published in Great Britain in 2005, this is an odd mishmash that begins with the seven wonders of the ancient world and then goes on to cover everything from pyramids to “mysterious monuments” to forts and castles to engineering marvels such as telescopes and dams. There’s much more of this diversity, and each wonder gets a paragraph or so of information. All of this is illustrated with rather ordinary pale watercolor pictures or stock photos. There’s so much here, there’s probably something for everyone, but few readers will be satisfied with the amount of information they get. Unfortunately, there’s no back matter that will lead them to find out more. Put this in the browser category, and maybe some kids will go on to discover more on subjects that have piqued their interest. Grades 3-5. --Ilene Cooper --This text refers to the Library Binding edition.
