Choosing the Right Bat - The Easy Choice System Assigns each Bat to One of Eight Player Types/Strengths, from Level 100 to Level 7000

Control, speed and spin are the three most important parameters when classifying table tennis bats. Therefore each bat label has a diagram with these three properties.

Control: A high level of ball control is especially important for beginners. The control is achieved through thin sponges (up to 1.6mm). The white or yellow foam layer between the rubber surface and the wood of table tennis bats is called sponge.

Speed: Thicker sponges from approx. 1.8mm ensure a fast, offensive game. The sponge is often referred to as the bat's engine. It generates its own acceleration, similar to an elastic string in a tennis racket.

Spin: A non-slip, sticky rubber coating on the table tennis bat enables the ball to spin more easily for playing with a cut. The higher the bat quality, the more grippy the rubber is.

The History of the Traditional German Brand Schildkröt

In 1896 the Rheinische Gummi und Celluloid Fabrik in Mannheim-Neckarau developed the blass-press method, used for the production of hollow bodies made of celluloid, and immediately registered the necessary patents. This was the starting point for the production of dolls' heads and later of table tennis balls, under the Schildkröt brand.

In the 80s, the product range was divided into different areas: dolls, toys and table tennis, which were taken over by various companies. In 1984 the current company owners took over the sporting goods sector and in 1989 they built the first western table tennis production facility in China.

In the year 2000 the strengths of two table tennis respectful brands were combined into Donic-Schildkröt, through the cooperation between Donic and Schildkröt. Donic is one of the world's most successful brands in the table tennis competition segment. Donic-Schildkröt is today, by far the best-known and market-leading table tennis brand in Central Europe.
